A station wagon light motor vehicle parked outside the garage behind the locked gate, caught alight in Primrose midday today, and fire conventionally spread towards the house, causing extensive damage to the content and part of the roof.
Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) firefighters from Primrose fire station swiftly responded to the to 12 Manida Street Primrose for intervention. The call was received exactly 12H06 through the City of Ekurhuleni Life-threatening Call Center.
On arrival, the vehicle and combustibles inside the garage were well alight. More backup was activated from Bedfordview and Edenvale fire stations, respectively. While awaiting their arrival, primary responders (Primrose fire station) connected water from an underground fire hydrant for a sustained supply.
As backup arrived, secondary attack line was established for exposure protection. Three bedroomed house was completely saved from the horror of fire. Flames were ultimately extinguished without any recorded casualties. All present family members and four dogs were saved however, the vehicle and garage were completely burnt down.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and still remains a subject of investigations by fire safety officers.
